What is WINQ?

The Wallenberg Initiative for Networks and Quantum Information (WINQ) is a research initiative aimed at developing expertise in both networks theory and quantum information science in Sweden. The initiative is based at Nordita, which is a research institute for theoretical physics located in Stockholm.

WINQ is supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation (KAW) and it is aimed at nurturing and bringing together expertise from both quantum information science and complex dynamical systems to address major open challenges in these fields.

Network science has grown rapidly over the last few decades, and finds applications in various fields, ranging from physical systems to biological networks. The research profiles at WINQ include both theoretical aspects, such as spatial-temporal multiscale systems, and applications to fields such as biology, as well as machine learning.

Quantum information science has similarly expanded to encompass a number of research directions, including the development of quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum communication protocols. The research focus of WINQ ranges from quantum information theory, quantum optics, quantum thermodynamics, relativistic quantum information theory, and more.

The initiative currently encompasses six postdoctoral research fellows who work at Nordita, as well as one junior faculty member who joined in February 2023.
