Sean Nowling
Nordita Fellow
About
Sean Nowling received his PhD in theoretical high-energy physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At the beginning of 2008, he joined Helsinki University and the Helsinki Institute of Physics as a postdoctoral researcher in the string theory and mathematical physics group. Sean accepted a position at Nordita as a Fellow in the fall of 2010.
Sean's field of research is string theory and high-energy physics, but more generally, he is interested in highly quantum features of matter. In the past he has worked on problems associated with unstable vacua in string theory and time-dependence in string theory. More recently Sean has been interested in the application of the anti-de-Sitter / conformal field theory duality to problems of strongly coupled quantum critical phenomena. In addition, Sean has a long running interest in the role of entanglement entropy in quantum field theories.
