About
Matthias Rheinhardt received his PhD in 1998 from Potsdam University. After a PostDoc position at the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam he has been working for the Institute for Geophysics of Göttingen University and the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics of Tübingen University. In 2009 he joined the astrophysics group headed by Axel Brandenburg, in the framework of the ERC Project on Astrophysical Dynamos.
His research interests are dynamo theory and mean-field theories in general with a focus on the determination of turbulent transport coefficients. Here he contributed essentially to the development of the so-called test-field method. Another field of activity has been the evolution of neutron star magnetic fields.
Recent work covers the numerical derivation of the transport coefficients which parametrize the Reynolds stresses in mean-field hydrodynamics and the modeling of the mean electromotive force in magnetically generated turbulence.
