About
Livia Vallini got her PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy, in 2015. During her PhD she spent several months in Heidelberg, Germany, at Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics. She made a postdoc at the University of Bologna, Italy before moving to Stockholm as Nordita fellow in 2016.
Her research is focused on the theoretical modelling and simulations of the interstellar medium (ISM) in high redshift galaxies. She is interested in shedding light on how cold molecular gas is turned into stars in the first galaxies that appeared when the Universe was less than 1 Gyr old. One of the goals of her work is to provide predictions and theoretical models for interpreting observations of molecular and metal lines obtained with ALMA, the largest sub-millimeter interferometer on Earth based in the Atacama desert (Chile). She is also interested in astrochemistry, and in expanding her models to the ionized gas phase of the ISM, that will be traced from high-z in the coming years by the JWST telescope.
