Koen Kemel joined Nordita as a PhD student in February 2009. His research will be on astrophysical dynamos with Axel Brandenburg as supervisor. His master studies were conducted at Gent University emphasizing on cold plasma discharge. Part of his studies were carried out at UCLA in California and KTH in Sweden in nuclear fusion science, engineering physics. He has a strong background in plasma physics.

Koens thesis work will be conducted within the ERC project astrophysical dynamos, with particular interest for the generation of flux concentrations through mean-field instabilities in a solar context.
