About

Juha Suorsa received his PhD in theoretical physics in 2011 from the University of Oslo. He joined Nordita as a fellow in summer 2011. His research is in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics and focuses on topological and strongly correlated quantum phases of matter.

Juha's PhD thesis work was on characterization of fractional quantum Hall states using methods of two-dimensional conformal field theory. One of the main results of this work is the extension of the vertex operator description of abelian fractional quantum Hall states to encompass non-chiral states. Juha has also worked on, and maintains an interest in, the entanglement properties of quantum Hall and other topologically ordered states. He has collaborated with researchers from Dresden, Tokyo, and Stockholm.

Juha's present research interests are focused on various aspects of low-dimensional topologically nontrivial states of matter, including their transport characteristics and description in terms of effective field theories.
