About
Juha Jäykkä's current research is divided between superconductivity, the family of Skyrme models, and the numerical techniques required in their study; recently he has started to also study topological insulators. The family of Skyrme models has been his main area of research in the past. They continue to provide a rich source of topological phenomena to study and we have learnt a lot about topological solitons in general by studying this family of models. Their relevance and interest has also been boosted recently after some overlap with Skyrme models and condensed matter physics was discovered. On the superconducting side, Juha studies the properties of two-component superconductors and the correspondence between the Ginzburg-Landau model of superconductivity and the Skyrme family of models. The methods developed during this research have been recently adapted to numerical simulation flux pinning in thin film YBCO superconductors.
