About
Ebru Devlen received her PhD from the University of Ege in 2008. She has joined Nordita in October 2012, she has also been Research Assistant at University of Ege since 2005. She is working in the field of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and plasma astrophysics. She is interested in accretion disks, especially on understanding angular momentum transport due to MHD instabilities.
Her earlier work was about the magnetorotational instability (MRI) with diamagnetic effect and Hall e.m.f. She showed that the diamagnetism causes a powerful instability in protostellar and protoplanetary disks by using linear stability analysis. Her work on dilute plasma presented a novel lineer instability which called as gyroviscous-modified magnetorotational instability (GvMRI) that may be more powerful and greater than ideal magnetothermal instability and MRI. She provided a detailed physical interpretation of this instability. The GvMRI is applicable not only to the accretion flows and intracluster medium but also to the transition region between cool dense gas and the hot low-density plasma in stellar coronae and the multiphase interstellar medium. She is also interested in heating of solar corona. She modelled North Solar Polar Coronal Hole (NPCH) using observed properties of OVI ions and coronal plasma. Her current work about NPCH shows that the energy flux densities of modified acoustic and Alfvén waves are enough to heat coronal plasma and accelerate solar wind. The solutions of the magnetoacustic waves show that the heat conduction and shear viscosity introduce anomalous dispersion to the NPCH plasma.
Her postdoctoral stay at Nordita is funded by the the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). In Nordita, she works with Axel Brandenburg about to extend the her studies into nonlinear regime using Pencil code.
