Today, Nordita participated in ForskarFredag, organized by Vetenskapens Hus (KTH/Stockholm University), and it was a fantastic experience! The event brought together students, teachers, and researchers to explore science  and our stand was buzzing almost nonstop. Students gathered to try out the engaging, hands-on physics experiments our researchers had prepared:

  • Balloon Experiment with Watse Sybesma
Watse Sybesma demonstrated a balloon-wrapped-in-aluminium-foil experiment, showing how the mass remains the same while the volume changes, increasing the density. He then connected this idea to the physics of stars and black holes, making complex concepts tangible and exciting for young learners.

  • Quantum Minesweeper with Andrea Maiani, Niklas Engelhardt Önne, and Jason Pye
Students also enjoyed a Quantum Minesweeper game, which taught the basics of quantum physics in a playful way. Top performers were rewarded with Nordita t-shirts, adding an extra incentive to dive into the world of quantum mechanics.

The curiosity of the students, combined with the enthusiasm of our researchers, made for an energetic atmosphere. A big thank you to everyone who visited our stand and participated in these activities! Moments like this reminds us why science outreach is so important, and we will definitely be back next year.
